Announced by Apple with the AirPods Pro 2, the adaptive transparency mode will extend to the first AirPods Pro of the name with the deployment of the iOS 16.1 beta. The original AirPods Pro get a new function with the arrival of iOS 16.1 in beta.
Got a first-generation AirPods Pro? They should very soon take advantage of a new feature that will cost you nothing. Announced last month by Apple at the same time as the second generation AirPods Pro, the adaptive transparency mode will indeed be deployed on the original AirPods Pro with iOS 16.1. Note that this feature is already available with the third beta of iOS 16.1, available since last weekend and reserved for developers for the time being.
As MacRumors points out, affected users with first-generation AirPods Pro can now activate this new feature. It can be found in Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods Pro, under the heading “Adaptive Transparency”.
iOS 16.1 Features
As a reminder, the adaptive transparency mode makes it possible to attenuate the most intense noises in a given environment (such as sirens in the city centre, the noise of a jackhammer on a construction site or even loudspeakers during a concert). ), while continuing to hear other sounds. This feature can, therefore “ clip ” the most disturbing noises, while maintaining the interest of the transparency mode in order to be fully aware of what surrounds us.

However, we still do not know how effective this function will be on the first AirPods of the name. The latter is satisfied with an H1 chip, dedicated to sound processing, while their successors (for which the adaptive transparency mode was initially designed) rely on the new H2 chip. Under these conditions, it is quite possible that this new transparency mode will be less effective if you have first-generation AirPods. Response within a few weeks with the large-scale deployment of iOS 16.1.
