I detest horror as a genre.
Publicly, I admit that the reason I don’t like it is that horror has a tendency to stick to tried and tested formulas, is afraid to jump in with a boring prediction and has a scary background score that Fun sucks from experience. But honestly, it’s mostly just because I’m a big official language. However, as I saw on screen with my fingers during my first play of Capcom Resident Evil: Village, I had to admit, I had a really good time, because a) the game is not so scary and b) even though it heavily uses basic horror elements, the whole package is still quite entertaining.
The story begins with some familiar faces, as we quickly reconnect with Ethan Winters, the protagonist of the previous title in this series, i.e. Resident Evil: Biohazard, And his wife Mia. After going through every kind of trouble to locate Mia in the last game and then save them, Winters has now moved into a delightful country house with herself and her 6-month-old daughter, where they find each other creepy Spend their nights telling. Stories and drinking alcohol.
Of course, this is a horror game, and Winters ‘domestic system is a little too perfect to get past, so soon, Chris Redfield shows up, killing Winters’ wife and kidnapping both her and her daughter. The vehicle in which they are being transported crashes, prompting a stunned Winters to wander through the jungle for a while, one with a heavy Transylvanian influence through a Chronicles of Narnia-esque portal Before stepping into the abandoned ghost town.
As you head into the deserted village, creatures like mutated wolves mad at you are known as lichens, and from then on, things only get worse as you explore your daughter to find these hair-raising horrors. Tolerate bravely. Rosemary.
Miranda squad
The Village is ruled by an imposing crew of bizarre whackjobs, including Lady Dimitrescu, a pagan vampire who has become obsessed with bizarre perversions on the Internet, Karl Heisenberg, who answers the question ‘What if Nicholas Cage Played in magneto X Men The films, ‘Dona Beneviento, a puppet who is a little too intimate with Angie and a creepy doll named Salvatore Morrow, a strange fish-man who can vomit acid.
This quartet of nutjobs is named by a mysterious six-wingspan (two wings too many, in my opinion, four is the proper range), named Mother Miranda. Miranda and her four henchmen are really interesting in their own unique ways, and most of them are quite fleshy as the characters. Their introduction into the game immediately enhances the experience, and their interactions with the protagonist and each other do a great job of setting the game’s mythos. I don’t think any of them are particularly horrifying, and honestly, they all feel like the lead characters in the discredited Tim Burton film script in the early 2000s.
Each of Miranda’s underlings is, in fact, a boss-level character, with her own separate areas in the game of four, which you will be allowed to explore sequentially. Lady Dimitrescu can be found in the grand Dimitrascu palace, while Heisenberg lives in a filthy factory and Beneviento is housed in an old stay house in a misty valley. Morrow, being more fish than humans, is perhaps the most interesting habitat, a reservoir in which it can transform itself into a salamander-fish hybrid.
Okay, before we move on, let’s talk about the nine-foot-tall elephant in the room. Yes, Lady Dimitruscu is a big girl. Yes, I am aware of the fact that some people have their imaginations to pick up and throw away, and honestly, who am I to judge? If that is your thing, then you have more power, but beware, he is only a small part in the story and his screen-time is quite brief, so maybe don’t buy it just for him.
Cassandra, Moroica, Come on Pretty Mama
Resident Evil: Village It may not be a third-person shooter on paper, but it definitely gives you an assortment of mythical creatures to shoot. There are plenty of demonic grunts who attack you in crowds, from werewalls to zombies, and all of them are sufficiently different from one another to justify their existence. For example, lichens are slightly faster and harder to hit, while Moroica are slower, but meet their lack of speed with numbers.
There are also many mini-bosses you can fight with, the most notable example being Lady Dimitrescu’s three daughters. All three of them have the same exact weakness, and can be defeated by the same strategy, but their entrances are quite memorable, and at least two of the three swear loudly to me when they suddenly appear to me.
Now, overall, none of the creatures you are facing should have any serious problems. Most of them can be taken down easily, and since I was playing the game at standard levels of difficulty, I only died a few times. In fact, in the beginning, enemies will largely approach you either alone or in pairs, but as the game progresses, they will begin to attack in waves, making the game a faster gun-sling, fast-moving affair. Will change to
Are you smarter than a fifth grader?
For a game full of puzzles, Resident Evil: Village Doesn’t really test your problem-solving capabilities in any significant way. The game can solve most of the puzzles that get in your way in minutes, and if you find yourself struggling to come up with an answer, usually some sort of hint in the shape of diary entries or engraving proximity Are hidden in I found myself severely stumped on only one occasion, but this was related to my complete lack of situational awareness, causing me to miss an allusion to an object that would have been noticed by someone else immediately.
Transylvania target
If you run out of supplies, the highly rotten Duke will always be a short distance away. Duke owns a one-stop-shop for all your monster-hunting needs, and in it you can find everything from ammunition and medicine to new firearms and briefcases that allow you to expand your inventory. . You can also trade in various treasures received during your trip for coins, so make sure to pick up every little trinket you encounter. Luckily, monsters sometimes turn into crystallized versions of themselves when you kill them, and these shiny busts can be sold for a pretty penny.
As much as I like the selection on offer, I must inform you that Duke’s Emporium is, in all honesty, a complete rip-off. I was completely dependent on them for ammunition in the first few hours of my game, and soon I found myself carrying an empty wallet. Similar to airports and movie theaters, there is a high premium on each item, and you will be best served to produce a lot of small items on your own.
After a while in the game, you will also be given access to The Duke’s Kitchen, where he will cook things for you if you hand in the right ingredients. The ingredients largely require you to hunt a bit for the animals, and when you gather the right combinations, the dishes prepared by Duke can give you a serious stat boost.
Crafty Little Fella
Move over from Bayer Grylls, Ethan Winters is now the god of existence. With only a few ammo and rusted scrap metal from the bottom of the stairs, Winters can produce all kinds of ammunition, from simple shotgun shells to sniper rifle rounds that can take out the Gargoyle from a few hundred meters away. Winters has the ability to engineer land mines and pipe bombs and other explosives in just seconds. He can also whip up the medicine by mixing chemical fluid and ‘herbs’, an obscure plant that has miraculous healing properties, allowing him to reattach the severed arm by Lady Dimitrescu.
A little bit of this, a little bit of that
Resident Evil: Village Hardly the longest game ever, and with an average playing time of just over 10 hours, you can get the majority of the story in no time. However, if you adopt a perfectionist approach to the game, it will certainly take you a lot longer to reach the end, given that there are many things you can do, including solving puzzles, taking your time. Can. Receiving treasures, some of which can be found and others that can be purchased.
Like other series titles, Resident Evil: Village There is also the Mercenaries mode, a post-game mode in which you can retry large parts of the game with new, more efficient weapons that allow you to deal more damage and play at higher difficulty levels. Mercenaries face new, exciting and difficult challenges, and if you are ready for the task, you will receive major rewards.
Tl; Dr: while Resident Evil: Village It is not one of the genre’s most innovative titles, it manages to weave well-worn horror tropes together in a refreshing, fast-paced feel.
The game was reviewed on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 Pro. Performance, apart from load time and graphical fidelity, did not differ that much. Review the code provided by the publisher.
