The year 2019 was filled with plenty of impressive films that captivated audiences worldwide. From awe-inspiring blockbusters to small scale independent films, here are the 50 best movies of 2019.

Spiderman: Far From Home topped the list as the best movie of 2019. The Spiderman sequel followed our favorite web-slinging superhero as he faces off against the villain Mysterio during an international escapade. Combining stunning visuals and witty dialogue, this action-packed movie was a fitting end to the MCU’s epic Infinity Saga.

The next few films on the list were standouts in different genres. The Irishman, a mob drama from Martin Scorsese, showcased Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci at their best. Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was packed with star power. Much of the praise went to Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt’s fantastic performances for their roles as washed-up actors. Other films on the list include the critically acclaimed documentaries Apollo 11 and The Biggest Little Farm, World War II epic Midway, and Keanu Reeves-starring actioner John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

2019 was also the year of films made by and starring women. Horror films Us, Midsommar and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark all received widespread recognition while independent offerings like Little Women, The Farewell and Booksmart earned heaps of praise from critics and audiences.

3. Bohemian Rhapsody

Christopher Nolan’s iconic biopic of the life of Queen Elizabeth II was a huge hit when it was released in 2018 and still looks great 20 years later. It captures the ups and downs of the monarchy in a fantastic way, and is one of the most iconic and well-made films of all time.

4. Roma

Stefano Venturi’s visually stunning and meticulously coordinated film is set in the days of the 1946 burning of Rome, and tells the story of a Roma family who are forced off their land and into appalling conditions.

5. Dogtooth

Luc Besson’s stylish and stylish gothic crime film was a huge hit in 2019 and balances a lot of stylish District 9-style setpieces with the nail-biter of a murder mystery. Kevin Smith’s bizarre and catchy took on the love story of a man and woman who are separated during a Category 5 hurricane. It’s an endearing and charming film, and perfect for those who like misunderstandings and screw-ups in their relationships.

Stephanie Mills and Noah Hawley star in this touching and heart-wrenching drama from centered on a family that is expected to die during a vehicular storm. It uses innovative visual effects to really show the risks of outing a family through technology, and is an excellent snapshot of the extremes that can go wrong during a weather event.
